Having a baby is one of the greatest joys in the world. Our children are the future to the planet. Babies are beautiful and pure and full of wonder and, for those reasons, taking pictures of them to share with people is a great option. Even if others don’t have babies, everyone can enjoy how beautiful a newborn is. With newborn photography, we aim to capture your beautiful new baby, in a way that makes you happy and proud to share them with the world.
When to Take Newborn Photos
The typical way to capture newborns is in curly poses; the natural body state that your newborn will bend in to. In order to capture these adorable positions, newborn photography should be done anywhere from five to twelve days after giving birth. Before the two week mark, newborns are relatively somber looking and they remain in a sleepy state. For this reason, they are easy to photograph and have a very natural cuteness to them. We recommend reaching out to us before you give birth, so that we can schedule an exact time; taking the stress out of scheduling following the birth.
After Two Week Photos
If you are electing to take newborn photos after the two week mark, your baby will most likely be awake during the photo session. This makes things a bit more complicated, as babies have a tendency to be fussy, but it is not impossible to do. With these types of photos, we won’t generally be able to get pictures of your baby curled up, on its own. We will most likely need you to be holding the baby in your arms, so that is feels comfortable. We can take photos of your baby lying down, but it may take a little work to get the photo just right.
Newborn Photo Tips
Newborn photo sessions can last for a couple of hours, usually around three, and, for this reason, we have some tips that we can give to keep your baby happy and comfortable during that time. It is important to make sure that your newborn is well fed before their photo shoot as this will keep them comfortable and, in addition to this, always have formula present at the shoot. Keeping the room at a comfortable temperature will also help, as will have a pacifier present. We also ask that you let our photographer and baby get comfortable with each other first.
Announcing Your Newborn
Once we have the photo session done, we will give you all of the options for pictures that we have. It is completely up to you which photos you choose and everyone will like different things. We do our best to make sure that every picture is a winner, but we understand that there will be some you love more than others. We can gently retouch the pictures you choose and give you hard copies so that you can announce your beautiful new baby to the world.
